Paloma film not under review – MTRCB
MANILA, Philippines — Director Darryl Yap’s controversial film “The Rapists of Pepsi Paloma” is not undergoing review by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) due to incomplete requirements.
Materials submitted by the movie’s distributor, PinoyFlix Films and Entertainment Production, could not be accepted due to missing requirements such as a certificate or clearance of no pending case from a regional trial court, the Department of Justice and city prosecutor, the MTRCB said.
Misinformation or false narratives that seek to discredit the board and mislead the public will be dealt with by law, the MTRCB warned.
The board is mandated to review and rate films before release.
Yap’s movie is reportedly set for theatrical release on Feb. 5.
MTRCB chairperson Diorella Sotto is a niece of actor Vic Sotto, who is pursuing a cyberlibel case against Yap for linking him to the rape and death of Paloma.
In a Facebook post, Yap said he was not asked to submit the additional requirements in his previous films.
“I asked for my film to be reviewed, not my entire being,” he said.
