Philippines logs fewer ILI, dengue cases
MANILA, Philippines — Fewer cases of dengue and influenza-like illness (ILI) were recorded in the country this month, according to the Department of Health.
DOH Assistant Secretary Alberto Domingo said 5,789 ILI cases, including one fatality, were reported from Jan. 1 to 18.
The figure is 54 percent lower compared to the 12,620 recorded in the same period last year, Domingo said.
Mortality due to ILI is also lower by 96 percent compared to the 26 fatalities in 2024.
The DOH said 10,842 dengue cases were recorded this month. The figure is eight percent lower than the 11,781 cases reported in January 2024.
From 42 dengue deaths in 2024, Domingo said, the figure dropped to 21, or by 50 percent this year.
