Go cites Iloilo’s progress during Dinagyang

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Bong Go showed solidarity with Ilonggos when he attended the Dinagyang Festival held on Sunday at the Freedom Grandstand and provincial capitol in Iloilo City.

Go watched the Dinagyang Ati Tribe Competition, the centerpiece of Iloilo’s annual festival celebrated in honor of Señor Santo Niño.

Eight tribes showcased the culture and tradition of the Ilonggos through dance, music and colorful costumes.

To show support, Go and his Malasakit Team distributed shirts, basketballs and other tokens to members of the contingents.

He thanked Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas, Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon and Rep. Jam Baronda as well as the city council and the provincial government led by Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. and Vice Gov. Christine Garin for their hospitality.

Go congratulated the officials for successfully organizing the festival and continuously exerting efforts to develop and advance Iloilo.

The senator said there’s more to the Dinagyang Festival than being just a cultural event. He said the festival is a testament of the deep faith and unity of the Ilonggos.

“I am honored to celebrate with you this grand occasion, which is something to be proud of not only by Iloilo, but of the entire Philippines. This festival is a testament of the living faith of the Ilonggos,” he said.

Go has been championing initiatives that uphold the welfare of indigenous peoples and promote the preservation of Filipino values, culture and traditions.
