2 MMDA workers caught operating colorum van in Cavite

MANILA, Philippines — Two employees of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) have been caught operating a colorum or unauthorized passenger van in Cavite.

Members of the special operations group of the Department of Transportation’s special action and intelligence committee tailed a gray van from Barangay Talaba in Bacoor, Cavite to Baclaran in Parañaque on Monday morning, according to DOTr-SAICT-SOG chief Raysen dela Torre.

The van, which carried a signboard marked “Baclaran Savers MRT/LRT,” picked up passengers along Molino Boulevard and reportedly charged each passenger P100, Dela Torre said.

Authorities pulled over the van and discovered that the driver is a field employee of the MMDA and his wife is a member of the “staff of an MMDA director under the Office of the Chairman.”

MMDA Chairman Romando Artes confirmed that the driver and his wife are MMDA employees.

Artes said the couple were “preventively suspended” and subjected to administrative investigation.
