For using EDSA busway, Tulfo scolds congressman son
MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Raffy Tulfo said yesterday he scolded his son, Quezon City Rep. Ralph Tulfo, who was apprehended for using the EDSA bus lane.
According to a television report, Congressman Tulfo’s convoy was accosted for using the EDSA busway on Jan. 23.
The senator said he asked Ralph to apologize for his action.
“I talked to him about the incident. I told him not to repeat it, and that he should issue an apology,” Tulfo said.
The ticket fine was paid and the driver was ordered to attend a seminar on traffic management, according to the senator.
“The good thing about it is that my son did not lie. He admitted it and apologized with humility,” Tulfo said.
He said the congressman did not abuse his position because he did not flee the arresting officers of the Department of Transportation’s Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation.
“He did not curse the apprehending officials. So I see no problem. He also did not use his special license plate ‘8’ even though he has the right to. It just shows that he is not abusive,” Tulfo said.
The House has said the “8” protocol plate has not been issued to its members in the current Congress.
The driver used the bus lane because he was in a rush, said Senator Tulfo, who has been vocal against politicians abusing their positions to use the Carousel.
