MANILA, Philippines — A six-year-old girl remains in critical condition after being assaulted by her playmate’s mother in Caloocan City, police reported on Monday.
Police said the victim was playing with her six-year-old friend when the suspect entered the room and assaulted her.
The incident occurred inside the suspect’s house, police said.
The suspect’s child narrated to police how the woman assaulted the victim.
“For no apparent reason, the mother hit the girl’s head on the bowl four times. She then carried the victim and shook her violently,” Caloocan police Hillcrest sub-station commander Capt. Romel Caburog said.
The suspect’s sibling heard the commotion and found the victim vomiting blood, police said.
The child was rushed to the hospital where she was placed under critical care due to massive head wounds and bruises.
Investigators said the suspect was reportedly suffering from postpartum depression, after giving birth recently.
The suspect is facing a complaint for frustrated murder. She was taken into police custody.
