ISIS-linked militant killed, soldier wounded in Lanao del Sur

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — A member of the Dawlah Islamiyah-Maute Group, linked to the terrorist group Islamic State, was killed during an armed encounter with the 8th Scout Ranger Company in Piagapo, Lanao del Sur over the weekend.

Lt. Gen. Antonio Nafarrete, Western Mindanao Command chief, said the firefight lasted 15 minutes, with the terror group retreating. One soldier was wounded and was brought to a hospital for treatment.

Nafarrete identified the slain terrorist as alias Usman. Soldiers recovered two rifles and several explosive devices from his possession.
