Marcos 'deeply saddened' by Gloria Romero's passing
MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. expressed grief for the death of veteran actress Gloria Romero.
In his official social media accounts, the president posted his statement on the Sampaguita Pictures star's passing.
"I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of one of Philippine cinema's great icons," Marcos began.
"I first met Gloria Romero on the set while filming 'Iginuhit ng Tadhana,' and have been an admirer of her work as an actress ever since. She was always a great lady with the dignity of a true star."
"Iginuhit ng Tadhana: The Ferdinand E. Marcos Story" is a 1965 biographical film by Sampaguita Pictures about then-Senate President Ferdinand Marcos, the current president's father who later became the country's 10th president. Romero starred as Marcos' wife, Imelda.
The younger Marcos' tribute came with a black-and-white clip from the film, where Romero's Imelda was having a conversation with Bongbong, who played as himself in the film.
"Not just a brilliant artist but a very fine person, the world of Filipino cinema and all of enertainment will never forget her," Marcos Jr. further said in his tribute.
Romero passed away last Saturday, as confirmed by her family. She was 91. — With reports from Jean Mangaluz
