MANILA, Philippines — A construction worker held his one-year-old daughter hostage along C-6 Road in Barangay Sta. Ana in Taytay, Rizal on Saturday evening.

Col. Felipe Maraggun, Rizal police provincial director, said the man, identified only as Marvin, took his daughter Lady Natalie and held a karambit knife to her neck.

He added that Marvin might have panicked upon seeing barangay officials heading to his house after his wife filed a complaint for the rape of his stepdaughter.

The incident was live-streamed on Facebook, drew a crowd and caused traffic congestion in the area.

Taytay Mayor Allan Martine De Leon and Maraggun negotiated for the child’s release, which Marvin did after an hour.

Charges for serious illegal detention, alarm and scandal and illegal possession of a deadly weapon were filed against Marvin.
