MANILA, Philippines — A motorcycle-riding police officer has questioned a ticket issued by the Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation (SAICT) for his use of the EDSA Bus Carousel lane.

The officer, whose name is withheld, argued that as a member of the Philippine National Police, he should not be issued a ticket.

In a post on Facebook, the SAICT said the officer claimed that he was catching up for a “proceeding” when flagged for using the exclusive bus lane near the Ortigas station in Mandaluyong City on Jan. 17.

The policeman was given a temporary operator’s permit or TOP, which he surrendered to another SAICT enforcer at the busway’s Nepa Q-Mart station in protest.

“He returned the TOP, expressing his refusal to pay the fines, arguing that as a member of the PNP, he should not be subjected to such enforcement,” SAICT said in the post.
