103 houses razed in 2 Cotabato City fire incidents
COTABATO CITY, Philippines — Up to 103 houses were razed by fire in separate conflagrations in two areas in Cotabato City in just five hours on Friday, January 24.
Officials of the Bureau of Fire Protection in Cotabato City and employees of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office separately reported on Saturday morning, January 25, that the two fire incidents left more than a hundred families homeless.
Barangay leaders and officials of the BFP-Cotabato City told reporters that 100 houses, made of semi-permanent materials, were destroyed by the fire that hit the riverside Tukananes area in Barangay Poblacion 7.
Three more houses in Barangay Rosary Heights 10 were razed down by fire about five hours later. Barangay Rosary Heights 10 is only about four kilometers away from Tukakanes area,
The Cotabato City government’s social welfare office had distributed essential relief supplies to the fire victims, now in temporary evacuation sites.
