Negros Occidental dengue cases increase

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Dengue cases in Negros Occidental increased by 296 percent from Jan. 1 to 18 compared to the same period in 2024.

The provincial health office said 250 cases of the mosquito-borne disease, with two fatalities, were recorded within three weeks.

During the same period last year, health officials said only 63 cases were recorded in the province.

In 2024, Negros Occidental recorded 6,799 dengue cases, with 22 fatalities. The figure indicated an increase of 354.48 percent compared to 1,489 cases reported in 2023.

Bago City reported the most number of infections with 1,042 followed by San Carlos City with 552 and Hinobaan with 424.

The rest are Silay City, 412; Talisay, 411; Kabankalan, 387; Cauayan, 383; Sagay, 376, and Cadiz City, 329.

In Bacolod City, up to 22 dengue cases were reported from Jan. 5 to 11, indicating an increase of 47.6 percent compared to last year’s 15 cases.

No dengue fatality was reported, according to Grace Tan, chief of the city health office’s environment sanitation division.
