MANILA, Philippines — The sampaguita or jasmine garland vendor who went viral on social media following a confrontation with a mall security guard in Mandaluyong City had graduated from the government’s conditional cash transfer program, according to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
The 22-year-old girl went viral after being kicked and shooed away by a security guard while selling sampaguita.
Her family was a household-beneficiary of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, according to 4Ps national program manager Gemma Gabuya.
From 2014 to 2024, the family received cash grants and other interventions after a fire destroyed their house.
Gabuya said a P15,000 grant under the Sustainable Livelihood Program, Enhanced Support Service Interventions worth P15,000 and a P6,500 Alternative Family Home assistance for house rent were provided to them.
“Before they exited the 4Ps program, we turned them over to the local government of Quezon City. But this doesn’t mean there will no longer be 4Ps services. It still goes on, but this time we already have partner agencies,” Gabuya said.
