CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — Three men posing as state workers carted away P10 million worth of jewelry, cash and personal belongings from house owners in Santa Rosa City in this province on Monday.
The complainants, identified only as Sheila, 36, and Johcel, 27, told police the suspects knocked on their door in Barangay Caingin at around noon.
The victims said the suspects introduced themselves as employees of the city government tasked to conduct a census of the family and other occupants of the house.
The suspects were allowed to enter, but as soon as they were inside, one of them pulled out a gun and declared a robbery.
The other suspects searched the house and gathered jewelry, phones, cash and other personal belongings before fleeing.
Meanwhile, in Maguindanao del Sur, a van driver died while his helpers were wounded in an attack by motorcycle-riding robbers in Shariff Aguak.
Rey Balmores died at the scene of the incident due to gunshot wounds in the body, police said.
Reports said Balmores and his companions had just delivered ice cream in nearby Sultan Kudarat town when the suspects waylaid them in Barangay Timbangan.
At gunpoint, the robbers took a bag containing an undetermined amount of cash from Balmores’ helpers, identified as Harris Ampatuan and Reymond Bajas, according to Brig. Gen. Romeo Juan Macapaz, Bangsamoro police director.
