CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — At least four people died and 13 others were injured in separate road accidents in Alaminos, Laguna and at the North Luzon Expressway over the weekend.
In Laguna, traffic investigators reported that a passenger van bound for Bicol was traversing Barangay 2 Poblacion in Alaminos when it collided head-on with a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction.
Probers said eight van passengers, two Sangguniang Kabataan chairmen and six SK councilors in Albay province were injured.
They identified one of the fatalities as Edward Ruelo, a computer operator. The identity of the other fatality has yet to be established. The two were rushed to San Pablo City District Hospital and San Pablo General Hospital, respectively, where they were declared dead on arrival.
In Pampanga, investigators said two people died and five others were hurt when the sport utility vehicle (SUV) they were riding crashed at the northbound lane of the Expressway on Sunday.
A report to Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo, Central Luzon police director, identified the fatalities as driver Crisanto Catolico and passenger Vina Bersamina.
Those injured were identified as Rodelina Longares, Robina Bersamina, Rona Asuncion, Precious Jolyn Longares and Ron Daniel Asuncion, all residents of Barangay Cosili in West Bangued town in Abra.
According to the initial investigation report, the SUV was overtaking a truck when it veered toward the right side of the expressway and hit two concrete bollards before crashing against a narra tree.
The seven were rushed to the Dr. Jose B. Lingad Memorial General Hospital, where Crisanto and Vina were declared dead on arrival.
