MANILA, Philippines — Eight civilian informants instrumental in the arrest of nine people wanted for heinous crimes received P1.59 million in cash reward from the Philippine National Police.

PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil lauded the informants for their cooperation, which led to the arrest of fugitives facing complaints such as murder, rape and homicide.

“We are grateful to the public for their continued support as it is through their assistance that we can make significant strides in ensuring justice and maintaining peace in our communities,” Marbil said in a statement on Friday.

The informants got the cash reward during a ceremonial handover led by PNP Directorate for Intelligence chief Maj. Gen. Westrimundo Obinque at Camp Crame.

For their safety and security, the claimants wore masks to conceal their identity.

The granting of cash incentives to informants, excluding government employees, is part of the PNP’s efforts to foster cooperation with the community against crime and to address security-related threats.

“This reward program is part of our continuing efforts to build stronger partnerships between police and the community,” Marbil said.
