President Marcos turns over housing units to Yolanda survivors
BURAUEN, Leyte, Philippines — President Marcos yesterday turned over 3,517 housing units to survivors of Super Typhoon Yolanda in this town.
During the event held at the Burauen Community College, Marcos and Speaker Martin Romualdez handed over symbolic keys to chief executives of eight municipalities in Eastern Visayas and three select beneficiaries of the housing program.
Implemented under the National Housing Authority (NHA)’s Yolanda Permanent Housing Program, the housing units are located in Cool Spring Residences, Riverside Community Residences, Mont Eagle Ville Subdivision, Coconut Grove Village, Dagami Town Ville and Pastrana Ville in Leyte; Marabut Ville Sites 1 and 2 in Samar, and Culaba Housing Project in Biliran.
Of the eight housing projects, only the property on which the Culaba Housing Project was constructed is owned by the local government. The rest are owned by the NHA.
Marcos and Romualdez inspected Spring Residences, which consists of 600 bungalow-type units, each constructed on a 40-square-meter property.
The houses were awarded as a grant or at no cost to qualified beneficiaries who were displaced by Yolanda in 2013.
Before Marcos arrived in the area, mayors from eight local government units signed an agreement for the grant of housing units to Yolanda survivors.
