CAMP ALEJO SANTOS, Bulacan, Philippines — Two people died while 20 others were injured when a modern jeepney collided with a tricycle in Calumpit town in this province on Tuesday afternoon.
Tricycle driver Johny Reyes, 44, and his passenger, Angelica Esguerra, 27, were declared dead on arrival at the Bulacan Medical Center, where the others were also taken for treatment of injuries.
The jeepney, driven by Orlando Manayag Jr., 53, was traveling along MacArthur Highway in Barangay Iba O Este when it hit the tricycle, according to Col. Satur Ediong, Bulacan police director.
After the collision, the jeepney fell into a canal, causing injuries to its passengers.
Probers said the jeepney developed engine trouble, causing Manayag to lose control of the wheel.
Manayag was charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and multiple physical injuries.
