CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — A Chinese national was arrested in connection with the kidnapping of his compatriot in Cavite on Monday night.

Police rescued the victim, identified as Vivian Cao, who was abandoned by the kidnappers in a vehicle parked along Palanas Road in Barangay Anabu 1-G in Imus at around 10 p.m., according to Lt. Col. John Paolo Carracedo, Bacoor police chief.

A joint team of the police Anti-Kidnapping Group, Highway Patrol Group-Calabarzon and local policemen arrested the suspect, identified as alias Xie, following a chase that started from Imus to Kawit and to Bacoor.

Police said they seized a car and a firearm from the suspect, who was arrested along Tirona Highway in Barangay Habay 1.

The suspect and his companions reportedly seized Cao in Clark, Pampanga.

The other kidnappers fled in different vehicles, one of which was pulled over by a security guard in Evo City in Kawit.

The guard and the suspect engaged in a fistfight until the latter fled in a car, leaving behind a .9mm pistol.

The guard took the suspect’s gun and shot him, but the bullet hit the rear of the car.

A manhunt is ongoing for the suspects, police said.
