MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.1 earthquake jolted Sultan Kudarat yesterday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported.
Phivolcs said a moderate quake, measured at magnitude 4.9, also hit Sarangani town in Davao Occidental at 6:30 a.m.
State seismologists said the temblor in Sultan Kudarat occurred at 8:19 a.m. with its epicenter located 18 kilometers north of Kalamansig town.
The earthquake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of focus of 546 km.
Phivolcs traced the epicenter of the Davao quake at 166 km south of Balut Island in Sarangani. It was tectonic in origin and had a depth of focus of 160 km.
Although not expecting any damage, Phivolcs warned residents of possible aftershocks.
