CHED sets up offices in Negros

Neil Jayson Servallos - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines —  The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has established two regional offices in the Negros Island Region (NIR), one in Dumaguete City on the Oriental side and another in Talisay City, Negros Occidental.

J. Prospero de Vera IV, CHED chairman, said the offices were created last year under Republic Act (RA) 12000, which created the NIR.

“Throughout the years, CHED has been committed to ensuring that we bring CHED services closer to the Filipino people. Before the passage of RA 12000, CHED has already established a satellite office in Negros Island, located at Carlos Hilado Memorial State University in Talisay City, because we recognize the challenges faced by Negrenses, having to travel by sea to access our services from our regional office in Iloilo,” De Vera said.

He added that President Marcos instructed him during the signing of RA 12000 to “ensure that the NIR will start fully functioning as an administrative region in 2025.”

The two regional offices could provide universities and colleges easy access to CHED services and programs without having to travel to Cebu or Bacolod, De Vera said.
