Moderate earthquakes jolt Davao, Samar provinces
MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 4.5 earthquake shook Davao Oriental while two moderate quakes, measured at magnitude 4.2 and 4.0, jolted Eastern Samar yesterday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.
State seismologists said the temblor in Davao Oriental occurred at 1:48 a.m., with its epicenter located 75 kilometers north of Baganga town. The quake was tectonic in nature and had a depth of focus of 10 km, they added.
In Eastern Samar, Phivolcs recorded a magnitude 4.2 earthquake at 4:31 a.m. Its epicenter was traced 50 km north of San Julian town. The agency said the temblor was tectonic in nature with a depth of focus of nine km.
At 4:53 a.m., Phivolcs also recorded a magnitude 4.0 earthquake 86 km south of Dolores town. The earthquake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of focus of 10 km. No damage or aftershocks are expected despite the three moderate earthquakes.
