CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines — The Department of Tourism (DOT) has recognized the Kuyamis Festival in Misamis Oriental as one of the country’s major festivities.

The province will mark the 12th Kuyamis Festival from Jan. 13 to 17, featuring booth, street-dance and beauty competitions as among the highlights of the event.

The DOT recognition elevated the status of the Kuyamis Festival in the national cultural stage, local officials said.

Residents were urged to participate in the celebration and watch the coronation of the Miss Kuyamis 2025 at the Limketkai Atrium on Jan. 15.

The term kuyamis was derived from a variety of sweet coconuts that is endemic in the area and symbolizes the province’s history and the people’s connection to the tree and its fruit.
