Quezon diocese has new bishop
MANILA, Philippines — The Diocese of Gumaca in Quezon province yesterday installed Bishop Eugenius Cañete as its fourth bishop.
Cañete’s installation came a week after he was ordained into the episcopate, according to the CBCPNews, the official news service provider of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines.
Pope Francis appointed Cañete as bishop of Gumaca in September last year.
Papal Nuncio Charles Brown and Lipa Archbishop Gilbert Garcera led the offering of the mass for Cañete’s installation at the San Diego de Alcala Cathedral.
The event was attended by 15 bishops, including Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula who gave the homily and retired bishop Emilio Marquez, the first bishop of Gumaca.
Cañete replaced Bishop Victor Ocampo who died in March 2023.
He urged Catholics to be good disciples of Christ.
