MANILA, Philippines — Cases of African swine fever (ASF) have decreased by 38 percent after the number of barangays with reported outbreaks went down to 225 from 365 previously, according to the Bureau of Animal Industry.

BAI records showed that as of Dec. 27, 2024, only 11 regions, 21 provinces and 67 municipalities reported ASF cases.

Most of the cases were recorded in North Cotabato with 86 followed by Camarines Sur with 52 and Abra with 29.

Other areas included Kalinga with 15 cases; Masbate, eight; Ilocos Norte, six; and Bohol, Catanduanes, Quezon province and Sultan Kudarat with three cases each.

The town of Lobo in Batangas, ground zero of ASF outbreaks in August, recorded only two cases.

Existing ASF cases have also been reported in Agusan del Norte, Camarines Norte, Southern Leyte and Surigao del Sur with two each.

Cagayan, La Union, Leyte, Occidental Mindoro and Zambales have one case each.

Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. said the mass vaccination of hogs in Batangas has been completed, using 10,000 vaccine doses acquired through emergency procurement.
