1 dead, 2 hurt in Bilibid stabbing

MANILA, Philippines — An inmate was killed and two others were injured in a stabbing at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa yesterday morning.

The incident occurred at Gate 1-A, Quadrant 4 of the maximum security camp at 7:15 a.m., according to acting NBP superintendent Chief Insp. Roger Boncales.

Following the stabbing, the Bureau of Corrections directed all superintendents of prison and penal farms to heighten security and ensure the safety of inmates and BuCor personnel.

“These precautionary measures are critical to preventing retaliation and maintaining order while the incident is being investigated,” the BuCor said in a statement.

The BuCor withheld the names of the convicts involved in the incident until their families have been notified.
