Villafuertes lead in Camarines Sur survey
MANILA, Philippines — If elections were conducted today, the Villafuertes would be lording it over Camarines Sur, a Pulse Asia survey showed.
Gov. Luigi Villafuerte, his congressman-brother Miguel Luis and their congressman-father Luis Raymund emerged as the local politicians who are likely to win in the 2025 midterm polls.
Luis Raymund or LRay is running as governor, competing against Ronald Rodriguez who ranked second in the survey with eight percent. LRay had 80 percent votes in the survey conducted on Dec. 1 to 7 among 1,200 respondents.
LRay, National Unity Party president, was a three-term governor who built the CamSur Watersports Complex in the province and made Camarines Sur a major tourist destination in the Philippines in 2010 and 2012.
Camarines Sur also became a must-see destination with Villafuerte’s marketing push to make the province an extreme sports capital in the country.
The Ironman Triathlon competition was held in Camsur for three consecutive years while five of the international editions of reality TV show “Survivor” were also held in the renowned ecotourism haven Caramoan.
LRay is the concurrent majority leader of the Commission on Appointments and has principally authored 41 laws this year, including 11 measures that President Marcos, along with the Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council, had identified as priority bills.
The survey was commissioned by the Iriga City Chamber of Commerce and had a margin of error of plus/minus 2.8 percent.
Pulse Asia said there were 1.084 million registered voters in CamSur in the 2019 polls. The electorate has increased to 1.26 million for next year’s balloting, it added.
