6 caught with high-powered guns in Caloocan
MANILA, Philippines — An alleged member of a criminal ring and five others have been arrested in Caloocan City for carrying various high-powered firearms, according to the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).
The suspects were nabbed by personnel of the Northern Police District in Barangay 36 on Dec. 21.
Police said the alleged member of the Alcantara crime ring, a 29-year-old woman identified only as Tomboy, is wanted for murder.
The group is known for its involvement in drug trafficking and gun-for-hire activities, the NCRPO said.
Tomboy was apprehended pursuant to a warrant of arrest issued by a Caloocan City court. No bail was recommended for her temporary liberty.
The other suspects were identified only through their aliases Jharvis, Ranie and Renzo, all from Tondo, Manila, as well as Roel and Jerry from Binangonan, Rizal.
Police recovered from the suspects several firearms including a bushmaster, a Glock 17 Gen 4, a Glock 19, a Taurus PT 1911 and ammunition.
NCRPO chief Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin urged the public to be vigilant, especially during the Christmas and New Year celebrations as well as the 2025 midterm elections, to ensure peaceful and orderly communities.
“Our campaign against illegal firearms is pursuant to the NCRPO’s objective of reducing the occurrence of crimes perpetrated with the use of loose guns as we continue to prepare for the midterm elections in 2025,” Aberin said.
He said probers are conducting deeper investigation into the group’s possible involvement in other crimes.
