Follow park etiquette – group
MANILA, Philippines — As the holiday season approaches, environmental group EcoWaste Coalition has urged the public to observe park etiquette to prevent and reduce waste.
“Every Christmas and New Year, many families go to different places of recreation, such as Rizal Park in Manila, Quezon Memorial Circle in Quezon City and other public parks to celebrate the festive holidays with their loved ones,” the group said.
“Although it brings joy to families, especially children, this yuletide practice seems to carry a burden for Mother Earth because of the garbage left in every corner of recreational parks,” it noted.
Park etiquette must be followed, such as bringing tumblers and food in a reusable container.
Single-use plastics must be avoided, the group said, and cloth napkins should be used instead of wet wipes or tissues.
Littering, burning garbage and lighting firecrackers are not allowed.
Smoking and vaping are also discouraged.
The public should clean as they go and respect fellow visitors and park personnel, EcoWaste noted.
