Town councilor shot dead in Zamboanga

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — A gunman shot a town councilor dead Thursday night in Piñan town, Zamboanga del Norte, police said.

According to police reports, councilor Glecerio Redillas was resting at his home in Barangay Poblacion 2 when the lone gunman, aided by two lookouts, shot him twice in the head.

Redillas died on the spot.

Col. Rainer Diaz, Zamboanga del Norte provincial police director, ordered the Piñan police to investigate the case thoroughly and hunt the assailant.

As Redillas was a re-electionist, investigators are not discounting the possibility that the killing is politically motivated.
