Moderate quakes rock Batangas, Eastern Samar
MANILA, Philippines — Moderate earthquakes jolted Batangas and Eastern Samar yesterday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
State seismologists said that a magnitude 4.4 earthquake rocked Batangas at 9:34 a.m., with the epicenter located seven kilometers south of Calatagan town.
They added that the earthquake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of focus of 17 km.
Meanwhile, a magnitude 4.5 earthquake rocked Eastern Samar at 4 a.m., with the epicenter located 80 km north of the municipality of Mercedes.
It was also of tectonic origin and 10 km deep.
Phivolcs said that no damage or aftershocks were expected from the two temblors.
