Marcos opens one-stop center for OFWs in Makati
MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos launched yesterday a one-stop center in Makati that aims to enhance government services for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).
Joining Marcos at the inauguration of the Bagong Pilipinas One-Stop OFW AKSYON Center were First Lady Liza Marcos, Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac, OFWs and members of the diplomatic corps.
Located along Malugay street in Barangay Bel-Air, the new DMW office offers reintegration support services, legal assistance and other aid through the agency’s AKSYON Fund.
The center also offers other government services from the Social Security System, Pag-IBIG Fund, Philippine Health Insurance Corp. as well as Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.
The facility will cater to OFWs in southern Metro Manila.
Marcos said the one-stop shop also facilitates the retraining, reskilling and upskilling of OFWs and job placements.
It features a café offering free coffee and snacks to visiting OFWs and their families.
The AKSYON Center building will serve as an annex of the DMW, where some of its offices will be transferred from its headquarters in Mandaluyong.
In the afternoon, the President led the annual Christmas gift-giving for around 500 OFW-repatriates from Lebanon and Israel.
During the event, Marcos raffled off four condominium units from the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development’s program Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino.
Only two condominium units were supposed to be raffled off, but the crowd cheered for more.
The President also turned over P10,000 cash assistance to 50 beneficiaries through the DMW’s Livelihood Program for OFW Reintegration to help them start their small business.
