PNP probes Makati shooting

MANILA, Philippines — A shooting in Makati involving two police officers and a motorcycle rider, witnessed by Alliance of Concerned Teachers Rep. France Castro last week, is being investigated by the Philippine National Police (PNP).

“We are exercising our motu proprio authority to thoroughly probe this incident and address any possible lapses in operational procedures,” PNP Internal Affairs Service inspector general Brigido Dulay said yesterday.

Makati police chief Col. Joseph Talento as well as the substation 6 commander were relieved from their posts following the incident.

On Dec. 12, Castro said that while she was stuck in traffic, one of the police officers fired a gun at a motorcycle rider near her vehicle along Makati Avenue.

During her manifestation at the House of Representatives quad committee hearing, Castro expressed concern about her safety.

She said the shooting could be related to the investigation of former president Rodrigo Duterte’s war on drugs and the alleged misuse of public funds by Vice President Sara Duterte.
