MANILA, Philippines — A fire that broke out late Thursday in Barangay 218 in Tondo, Manila left a woman injured and rendered about 60 families homeless.
According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) National Capital Region office, the fire started on the second floor of a three-story house made of “old wooden light materials” along Interior 5 Street.
The fire spread to 19 other houses, prompting Manila Fire District Marshal Senior Supt. Aristotle Bañaga to raise the third alarm at 5:49 p.m.
The blaze almost affected a substation of the Manila Electric Co. located near the burning houses.
Bañaga said the fire was placed under control at 7:06 p.m., with 14 fire trucks of the BFP and 29 others from volunteer groups responding.
Arson investigators estimated the damage to property at P750,000. They have yet to determine what caused the fire.
