LTO deploys breathalyzers for safer holiday travel
MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has deployed breathalyzers nationwide to keep roads safe during the holiday season.
LTO chief Vigor Mendoza said random inspections on motorists would be conducted as festivities are expected to increase in the coming weeks.
“Our enforcers nationwide are equipped with breath analyzers. Random inspection will be implemented in areas near entertainment bars,” Mendoza said.
Motorists may face fines or imprisonment if the alcohol level in their system is found to be beyond the prescribed limit.
Mendoza said violators of the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013 would be turned over to the police.
He advised people to designate a driver when going to parties and ensure roadworthiness of their vehicles.
