MANILA, Philippines — Marikina Mayor Marcelino Teodoro’s congressional bid in the 2025 midterm elections has been canceled by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for material misrepresentation.

In a 25-page resolution issued yesterday, the Comelec First Division granted Sen. Aquilino Pimentel III’s petition to cancel Teodoro’s certificate of candidacy (COC) for congressman.

“We painstakingly perused all the evidence submitted by both parties and found that the evidence of the petitioners outweighs that of the respondent, revealing and proving their claim that the respondent made a material misrepresentation in his residence qualification, warranting the cancellation of his COC,” the Comelec resolution read.

Teodoro’s alleged misrepresentation of his address is enough to cancel his candidacy, the poll body said.

Testimonies of the petitioners and witnesses supported Teodoro’s abandonment of his domicile of origin, the Comelec noted.

As the National Unity Party’s official candidate, Teodoro vied for a  seat in Marikina’s first district.

Pimentel and two other registered voters filed a complaint against Teodoro, claiming that the mayor misrepresented himself as a registered voter of District 1 when his registration had yet to be approved by the Election Registration Board.

Teodoro said he had transferred his residence address from the city’s second district to the first district.
