LTFRB extends operation of traditional jeepneys anew
MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has again extended the provisional authority (PA) of traditional jeepneys and UV Express units to continue operations for another year.
The LTFRB said the PA of individual operators of jeepneys and UVs would be extended until Dec. 31, 2025.
The extension will cover only operators who have pending applications for consolidation in line with the government’s public utility vehicle modernization program (PUVMP).
The LTFRB reopened the consolidation applications on Nov. 29.
Under Memorandum Circular 2024-043, the agency said there is a need to further extend the validity of the PAs due to several applications for consolidation filed before the board’s central and regional offices.
Transport group Manibela said the memo shows the failure of the PUVMP, adding that the extension was granted to avert a possible shortage of public transportation if only modernized jeepneys were allowed to ply the roads.
