11 rescued from distressed boat

Evelyn Macairan - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Members of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) rescued 11 crewmembers of a motorized boat that figured in an accident in the waters off Occidental Mindoro on Monday.

The M/BCA God’s Grace 9 was sailing to Calatagan in Batangas when it encountered big waves near Ambil Island in Looc, Occidental Mindoro. A floating object reportedly hit and caused a hole on the boat.

The boat’s crewmembers stuffed the hole with rags and plywood, but these did not stop water from entering the boat.

The owner of God’s Grace 9 sought the help of the PCG, which contacted its substation in Lubang.

The responding team, on board M/V Lubang Express, proceeded to the accident site and rescued the captain and 10 crewmembers of God’s Grace 9.
