MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Justice (DOJ) has warned the public against online scammers this Christmas season.

DOJ spokesman Mico Clavano said there has been an uptick of scamming activities in the past months.

He said Filipinos, as avid users of social media, are vulnerable to online scamming, advising that they should be more circumspect about the transactions they make online.

Television host Migs Bustos asked the DOJ to investigate online scammers pretending to be media personalities.

Bustos said scammers are using his and his family’s photos to dupe other people.

A person from Orlando, Florida allegedly lost $2,000 after falling victim to the scammer using the name of Bustos.
