2 retired cops shot dead, 3 others hurt

COTABATO CITY, Philippines — Two retired policemen were killed in an ambush in Barangay Paigoay, Marogong town in Lanao del Sur on Saturday.

Three others, including another retired police officer, were seriously wounded in the attack.

Brig. Gen. Romeo Juan Macapaz, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region police director, said he has ordered the Lanao del Sur Provincial Police Office and the Marogong police unit to investigate the crime.

He identified the fatalities as retired policemen Solaiman Alibasa and Hadji Asrap Sandab. Both died on the spot from multiple gunshot wounds.

Sanaoray Alibasa, Sarpia Mangayao and retired policeman Ramil Bao were seriously wounded.

Initial investigation showed that the five were in a car heading to Malabang town in Lanao del Sur when they were ambushed along a secluded stretch of the highway.
