House bill extending PNP retirement age to 57 OK’d
MANILA, Philippines — The House committee on public order and safety approved on Tuesday a bill that would extend the compulsory retirement age for officers and non-officers of the Philippine National Police from 56 to 57.
House Bill 11140, authored by Speaker Martin Romualdez, hurdled the panel chaired by Santa Rosa City Rep. Dan Fernandez.
The measure seeks to amend Republic Act 6975 or the Department of the Interior and Local Government Act of 1990.
Fernandez said extending the retirement age for PNP personnel would help in law enforcement.
Lawyer Ricardo Bernabe III, National Police Commission (Napolcom) vice chairperson and executive officer, expressed support for the bill, saying the proposed retirement age would not affect police performance.
