MANILA, Philippines — A woman was arrested for faking her pregnancy to avoid being fined for using the exclusive EDSA bus lane yesterday.
According to the Department of Transportation, the woman was apprehended at the EDSA Carousel Santolan station after she claimed to be two months pregnant and had a medical emergency.
The driver, whose identity was withheld, was apprehended for bribery, influence peddling, refusal to surrender her driver’s license and vehicle registration as well as illegal use of the EDSA busway.
Authorities reported that the woman attempted to bribe a traffic enforcer with P500 in exchange for leniency.
She even presented a calling card bearing the name of a Philippine National Police director in an effort to influence the PNP officers handling her case.
The Land Transportation Office issued a show-cause order to the suspect, requiring her to appear at the LTO hearing.
