LTO online transactions up 20%

MANILA, Philippines — Online transactions in the Land Transportation Office have increased to 20 percent as the LTO goes full steam toward digitalization.

LTO chief Vigor Mendoza said the agency’s online transactions increased from just three percent last year.

“Online transactions do not only make it more convenient for our stakeholders. It removes day to day transactions, which is a systemic change to address corruption,” he said during the Kapihan sa Manila Bay forum on Wednesday.

These transactions done through the LTO portal remove face-to-face interactions and help address fixer issues within the agency, according to Mendoza.

Motorists only need to upload documents such as emission testing and inspections, to the online portal and their vehicle registrations can be renewed.

The system has been rolled out for new vehicle registrations, with motor dealers nationwide.

“To date, we are now at 50 percent. We hope to hit 100 percent by the first quarter of 2025,” Mendoza said.

The LTO is also working with the Department of Migrant Workers and the Department of Information and Communications Technology to roll out online driver’s license renewal in January next year.

“We will start our online driver’s renewal with OFWs (overseas Filipino workers),” Mendoza said.
