MANILA, Philippines — The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has named Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin as the new chief of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).

In a social media post, the DILG congratulated Aberin.

Aberin was at the helm of the Police Regional Office (PRO)-7 in Central Visayas since March 2023.

He replaces Maj. Gen. Sidney Hernia, who was relieved from office to make way for investigations into an alleged extortion incident involving a Philippine offshore gaming operation (POGO) hub.

Hernia and PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group chief Maj. Gen. Ronnie Cariaga were both “administratively relieved” over the incident.

This stemmed from a supposed mishandling of the raid on Oct. 29 on Century Peak Tower, targeting an alleged POGO site in the 40-story building. — Emmanuel Tupas, Christine Boton
