29,211 barangays cleared of illegal drugs
MANILA, Philippines — Up to 29,211 barangays have been cleared of illegal drugs under the Marcos administration, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said yesterday.
In its latest report, the PDEA said there are only 6,292 drug-affected barangays across the country as of Oct. 31.
In Mandaluyong City, Mayor Benjamin Abalos Sr. and Vice Mayor Carmelita Abalos received a certification from the PDEA declaring Pag-Asa as a drug-cleared barangay.
At least 119,022 people were arrested in 87,802 anti-drug operations of the PDEA and other law enforcement agencies. Of the figure, 7,567 are said to be high-value suspects.
The PDEA said 12,402.97 kilos of shabu, cocaine and marijuana as well as 115,081 pieces of the party drug ecstasy, all valued at P51.14 billion, were seized nationwide. A total of 1,217 drug dens and two clandestine laboratories were also dismantled.
Just like in its previous reports, the PDEA did not include in its data the number of drug suspects killed in alleged shootouts with law enforcement authorities.
