MANILA, Philippines — An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in the Middle East who bought a lotto ticket while on vacation in the Philippines was the sole winner of a P37.46-million jackpot of the Super Lotto 6/49 on Oct. 20.

The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office said the winner deferred going back to work abroad so he could claim his jackpot prize, amounting to P37,462,798 exclusive of the 20-percent tax under the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) law, at the PCSO head office along Shaw Boulevard in Mandaluyong City.

The OFW told the PCSO that the winning combination that he bet on – 20, 32, 29, 31, 01, 22 – proved to be life-changing and carried a deeply personal significance to his family as it was always bet on by his father.

He said the numbers were the combination that his father had played for years. When his father became too ill to visit the lotto outlet, the OFW continued playing for him.

The new lotto multimillionaire told the PCSO that he planned to go back to his work overseas to properly give notice to his employer.
