MANILA, Philippines — A member of the House of Representatives is seeking a deeper investigation into the murder of six local officials in Pampanga, which occurred from April 2022 to middle of this month.
Senior Deputy Speaker Aurelio Gonzales Jr. of the third district of Pampanga said the perpetrators must be exposed and punished to the full extent of the law.
“Their conviction will provide closure to the victims’ families and allow them to heal and mourn the loss properly,” Gonzales said.
He said the local police seemed helpless about the killings, which he believes were perpetrated by contract killers.
Gonzales said he would file a resolution calling for an inquiry into the matter. He said he would urge his fellow congressmen to support his proposal.
“Families of the victims deserve both justice and closure. Justice may have many faces, but in the end, I believe it’s primarily about accountability,” Gonzales said.
