MANILA, Philippines — A 46-year-old Chinese national was found dead with multiple stab wounds inside his vehicle parked at the corner of Padre Algue Street and Jose Abad Santos Avenue in Tondo, Manila, early yesterday morning.

The Manila Police District (MPD) said a traffic enforcer initially reported the incident, believing that the man inside a dark gray Toyota Avanza was suffering from a heart attack.

Upon inspection by personnel from the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, however, the man, bearing several stab wounds, was confirmed dead.

An initial investigation revealed that the stabbing incident occurred at a different location.

Authorities expressed belief that the victim attempted to flee, but succumbed to his injuries, pulling over to park where his car was found.

Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from Barangay 238 showed the suspect, believed to be a foreign national, entering a nearby apartment building after the incident.

The suspect left shortly after and fled.

Investigators coordinated with local barangays to trace the suspect’s movements through additional CCTV recordings.

No bullet casings were found at the scene, thus, supporting the case that the man died from stab wounds, according to police.

The MPD said the victim’s body would undergo an autopsy as part of its ongoing investigation.
