MANILA, Philippines —  No politician or police general helped dismissed Bamban mayor Alice Guo escape in July to Malaysia.

Senators learned of the findings of the Philippine National Police (PNP) internal investigation during deliberations on the budget of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Wednesday night.

“Results of the PNP probe showed that no politician or police officer helped Alice Guo escape,” according to Senate Majority Leader Francis Tolentino, sponsor of the DILG budget.

The PNP looked into the statement of Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. senior vice president Raul Villanueva that a retired PNP general helped Guo escape.

Villanueva later retracted his allegation as baseless.

Guo has been detained at the Pasig jail on charges of qualified human trafficking and graft for allegedly using her position as mayor to host a Philippine offshore gaming operator and scamming hub in Bamban, Tarlac.
