MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos has announced that the Philippines will participate in the 4th Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety to be held in Morocco in February next year.

He also vowed to create a road safety task force composed of representatives from the health and transport sectors, who will work with the United Nations on road safety initiatives.

Last week, Marcos met with UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy for road safety Jean Todt at Malacañang to discuss the Philippines’ progress in promoting road safety.

During his visit in Manila from Nov. 7 to 11, Todt promoted the #MakeASafetyStatement campaign, which aims to halve road fatalities by 2030.

Todt also met with Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista, Health Secretary Ted Herbosa, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Chairman Romando Artes and representatives of the private sector to advocate for improved road safety measures.

The UN said every year, road-related fatalities claim the lives of 1.19 million people, leaving countless others with severe injuries.
